FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Boys & Girls Club Will Temporarily Suspend Programs
September 16, 2009 – Due to difficult economic conditions and a slowdown in contributions, the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Morgan County has decided to temporarily close the facilities in Mooresville and Martinsville. The Boys & Girls Club will temporarily suspend programming at the High Street facility in Mooresville and the Main Street facility in Martinsville on September 21. The organization plans to reopen the programs within two months after implementing a strategy to re-structure the operations and develop a comprehensive fundraising plan which will sustain the operations in the future.
Board President Ron Taylor states “this was a very difficult decision, but necessary actions in order to ensure, in the long-term, that quality Boys & Girls Clubs continue to be available for the young people in Morgan County. We look forward to re-opening and continuing to provide vitally needed services for the youth and their families in this community.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Morgan County nurtures young people’s well-being and helps them reach their full potential through one-on-one relationships with qualified, caring adult professionals and fun, age-appropriate, well-rounded programming. Known as “The Positive Place for Kids,” the Club provides guidance-oriented character development programs on a daily basis for children 6-18 years old. Boys & Girls Club programs emphasize character and leadership development, education and career development, health and life skills, the arts, and sports, fitness and recreation.  The two Boys & Girls Clubs in Morgan County serve over 500 youth every year.
